Kate Shela on Perimenopause: A Meat Grinding Initiation
“…perimenopause turns you around, looks you straight in the eyes and says, "Head backwards, because what's demanded of you heading forward will demand every piece of you. Retrieve and return.”
Gris Alves: The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Her Was Getting Older
“I didn't really get the perimenopause. But post menopause? Oh, girl.”
Randy Lee Cutler: Menopause and Making the Familiar Strange
“There were some challenges during perimenopause but I would say that growth and liberation definitely came with menopause. Its sounds like a cliche but I stopped caring what other people think of me. I feel like I came more into my own and just accepted myself. I also believe that I became an even better person, friend, teacher and artist.”
Reanna + Mimi
Where most resources centre symptoms and solutions, Hot Flash Magazine makes room for the less tidy that reflect the perimenopausal experience of unfiltered conversation, shared experience, and the questions of identity, emotion, and meaning.
We started here, with ourselves. Reanna and Mimi, co-founders, friends, and two people in perimenopause. It felt right to go first, not because we have the most to say, but because asking others to be honest in these pages required us to also be emotionally transparent.
We are both, in different ways, being remade by midlife.
