Dionne Grayman: Risk-Excitement and the Third Adolescence
“No one is better at being audacious than a woman in perimenopause and menopause, because the hot flashes are a different level of diabolical.”
Carmen Spagnola: I've Never Met Me at a Better Time
“I love my rage and that I have the power to terrify and terrorize men. I adore the freedom that comes from being so much further removed from the male gaze and internalized patriarchy. The me that has this many years under her belt of de-centering men and beauty ideals and youth is more me than I’ve ever felt. I’ve never met me at a better time in my life.”
Randy Lee Cutler: Menopause and Making the Familiar Strange
“There were some challenges during perimenopause but I would say that growth and liberation definitely came with menopause. Its sounds like a cliche but I stopped caring what other people think of me. I feel like I came more into my own and just accepted myself. I also believe that I became an even better person, friend, teacher and artist.”
Reanna + Mimi
Where most resources centre symptoms and solutions, Hot Flash Magazine makes room for the less tidy that reflect the perimenopausal experience of unfiltered conversation, shared experience, and the questions of identity, emotion, and meaning.
We started here, with ourselves. Reanna and Mimi, co-founders, friends, and two people in perimenopause. It felt right to go first, not because we have the most to say, but because asking others to be honest in these pages required us to also be emotionally transparent.
We are both, in different ways, being remade by midlife.
